Hair today, gone tomorrow

They taught me in broadcast school, never make yourself the centre of a story.

It's cardinal rule, number one, two and three.

Obviously, I missed that class - but, alas, it's for a good cause.

Seems in a moment of great weakness I decided to put my hair where my mouth is.

Each year, the West Kelowna Warriors set one game aside to raise money for cancer research.

Warriors Director of Business Operations, Andrew Deans, thought it would be a great idea if myself and Steve Francis from 103.9 The Juice challenged each other to a hair loss competition.

Whoever raises the least amount of money by November 30 will have his head shaved, at center ice, between the second and third period of the game that night against the Vernon Vipers.

The loser will also have to wear the jersey of the other's favourite NHL team at the same time. (Let me tell you, I do not look good in a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey).

But, as I keep telling myself, it's all for a good cause.

What's more, I've decided that if I am pledged at least $750, I will go bald win or lose.

And, if the total reaches $1,000, the mustache that has been with me since I was 20 will also go. What a way to say goodbye to Movember.

While Steve and I put our heads on the block (so to speak), several Warriors players as well as coaches and even owner Mark Cheyne are raising money by growing Movember mustaches.

It's all for a great cause, the Canadian Cancer Society.
