Knife is weapon of choice in robberies

RCMP have their hands full with a string of armed robberies over the last seven days - and all have involved knives.

The latest two occurred Monday.

Shortly before 5 p.m., police say a man wielding a large kitchen knife confronted an employee at the Wild Kingdom Erotic Luxury Boutique on Carrington Road in West Kelowna.

The man grabbed a small amount of cash and fled to a waiting vehicle, a dark coloured single cab pickup.

He's described as Caucasian, about 5'8" with a slim build. He appeared to be 20-25 years of age.

The man was wearing a mask over the lower portion of his face.

Four hours later, shortly before 9 p.m., a man attempted to rob the Subway Restaurant on Lawrence Avenue in Kelowna.

Witnesses say he pulled a knife and demanded money, but the employees refused.

He fled on foot empty handed.

The suspect is described as Caucasian, clean shaven with a pock marked face.

He appeared to be 25 to 30 years of age and was wearing a dark hoodie, khaki pants and sunglasses.

RCMP Cst. Kris Clark says it is difficult to say whether the two robberies are connected or whether there is a connection with three other armed robberies involving knives over the last seven days.

Clark says police are open to all possibilities.

He says investigators are sifting through different pieces of evidence at the various crime scenes including descriptions and video surveillance.

Aside from the two robberies Monday night, police are also investigating robberies at the Husky Gas Station on Ross Road (Nov. 14), Liquor Depot on Louie Drive (Nov. 13) and Shell/McDonalds Restaurant on Lakeshore Drive (November 12).
