A West Kelowna pizza delivery driver is now off-duty recovering from a dislocated shoulder suffered during a pizza heist Thursday night.

Forty one-year-old Teresa Vestre, a driver for Canadian 2-For-1 Pizza, says a young man and woman took her pizzas and over $300—more than what drivers normally carry—while attending a call on Old Ferry Wharf Road in West Kelowna at about 8:30 p.m.

"I pulled up, and the girl is on the side of the road," says Vestre. "She yells out, 'Is that my pizza?'"

Vestre says she then offered to drive the woman to her home, at which point a man approached.

"This guy comes rushing out of the bush and grabs me...."

A struggle ensued and Vestre says she then realized the man was armed with an "industrial hammer." He asked for money, a cell phone, and the pizzas.

"He dislocated my shoulder; it only lasted for four minutes."

Vestre surrendered the pizza and cash but kept her cell phone and eventually called police after pursuing the man in her car.

RCMP apprehended a 20-year-old woman and 21-year-old man, both from West Kelowna.

The pair are expected to appear in court on separate days.

Vestre says the call was suspicious and that the man appeared to know their business policy because he knew what to ask for.

"I think they called us three or four times before the delivery went out...they kept changing little things."

She says in the future, she will be more careful with calls. She also plans to take a self-defense course designed for delivery drivers.
