Attempted murder charges expected
The lawyer representing one of the two men arrested after Tuesday's wild chase and shootout with police expects his client will eventually be charged with two counts of attempted murder.
Defence lawyer, Joe Gordon represented Michael Edward Ellis in court Thursday.
Gordon made the comments to media assembled in the Kelowna Courthouse lobby Thursday following Ellis' first court appearance.
Charges stemming from Tuesday's incident have yet to be approved by crown against Ellis or Shawn Adam Wysynski, who is the co-accused in the incident.
Both men are being held in Kelowna cells on outstanding warrants.
Wysynski, 32 has an outstanding warrant for failure to comply with a probation order that has been in effect since February of this year stemming from an incident that occurred in Kelowna.
Ellis, 39 also has an outstanding warrant from June 2012, on Possession and Trafficking of a Controlled Drug or Substance stemming from an incident in the Columbia Valley.
Ellis was remanded in a Kelowna Courtroom Thursday on the drug charges.
He will be transferred to Kamloops Regional Correctional Centre, Friday, before making his next court appearance via video conference in Cranbrook on August 13, for the outstanding drug charges.
If charges stemming from Tuesday's incident are approved overnight, Ellis could appear briefly in court in Kelowna before being transferred.
Wysynski has not yet obtained legal representation and did not appear in court Thursday.
It is anticipated he will also be transferred to Kamloops on Friday.
An unidentified 19-year-old woman was also arrested during Tuesday's incident. Charges against her have also not been laid.
She remains in hospital recovering from a gunshot wound suffered during the high speed chase.
