Police have now confirmed the woman involved in Tuesday's high speed chase and shootout with RCMP on Westside Road was indeed shot.

Sgt. Diana McDaniel with the New Westminster Police Department says investigators have been able to confirm the female suspect received a non-life threatening gun shot wound.

She is currently recovering in hospital following surgery.

The woman was originally taken to Vernon Jubilee Hospital, however McDaniel was unable to confirm whether the suspect is still in Vernon or has been transported to another hospital.

The name of the 19-year-old suspect has also not been released.

The New Westminster Police Department was called in to handle the 'use of force' portion of the investigation after the RCMP exchange gunfire with the suspects.

McDaniel says investigators expect to be in the Okanagan through the weekend, although she admits it could be months before the investigation is complete.

The female was arrested along with two men, Shawn Adam Wysynski, 32 and Michael Edward Ellis, 39 near the Swan Lake turnoff north of Vernon Tuesday.

Wysynski and Ellis will both be in a Kelowna courtroom Thursday afternoon on unrelated outstanding warrants.

Charges stemming from Tuesday's incident have yet to be laid.

Ellis meantime was involved in a similar incident three years ago in the Boundary area.

In that incident, the driver of a stolen vehicle in Midway rammed a police truck and forced another cruiser off the road.

About an hour later, the suspect rammed the same police truck head-on near Rock Creek.

Ellis and two other occupants of the vehicle were arrested.

The case against Ellis was eventually dismissed because his right to a speedy trial were violated.
