Update: West Kelowna RCMP are confirming they have recovered the body of a West Kelowna man from Okanagan Lake.

The RCMP Dive Team discovered the body at 11:47 a.m., after searching for three hours on Saturday.

Police first responded to the call at 7:21 p.m., Friday. Officers report that when they arrived they learned that a husband and wife had been swimming off the log boom.

The 39-year-old man experienced difficulties and went under the water. Police say his fiancee attempted to assist her partner, but was unable to bring him back to the boom near Bear Creek Park.

The man's name will be released after the rest of the family has been notified.

During the search on Saturday, the fiancee of the missing man could be seen in the RCMP zodiac as the search was being conducted near Bear Creek Park and Traders Cove.

The search began Friday night when rescue crews were called to the scene shortly after 7:00 p.m.

The victim's father tells Castanet that his 39 year-old son just moved to West Kelowna and bought a house there. The distraught father says his son could swim and that he was playing with his dog in the water at the time of the accident.
