Since the 1960s residents on the westside have been celebrating Canada's birthday in style.

This year is no exception, the Westside Celebration Society is gearing up to throw a four day party, which will includes music, motocross and medals. The theme for the 2012 Westside Daze is "The Queen's Diamond Jubilee",  and will be attended by special guest the Lieutenant Governor of BC, Steven L Point.

Point will serve as the Parade Marshall for the Westside Daze Parade, the largest parade in the interior of BC.

A new important addition will also be added to Westside Daze this year.  Miss Westside Dazey, the first and only female mascot in the Okanagan. Miss Dazey was conceived by Westside Celebrations Society fund-raising chair, Shawn Moore and was made possible through the support of Kal Tire.

The idea of the costume came from the fuzzy 'Furkins', a cute puff ball creature who was handed out to people who purchased Westside Daze raffle tickets.

The festival grounds are located in the park behind the Johnson-Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre. Festivities kick off Friday evening with a free concert starting at 7:30 p.m., a tribute to Kenny Rogers and Dottie West. Other activities include, a presentation of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medals, a freestyle motocross demonstration,  a youth talent showcase, and all day music.  Fireworks will light up the skies on Saturday night and on Monday the Westbank First Nations will host Okanagan Day, for the forth year in a row.  Okanagan Day, celebrates First Nations heritage and culture. The annual Classic and Antique Car Show and Shine will take place on Canada Day and will attract a wide range of classy vehicles from Western Canada and the Northwest US. An authentic Indy Race Car will also be available for participants to check out through the weekend.

The entire Westside Daze committee and Mayor Doug Findlater gathered beside the West Kelowna Municipality office, to give the media a sneak peak at Miss Westside Dazey and to highlight the weekend's events, Thursday afternoon.
