Winery lifts Food Bank's spirit

A winery in West Kelowna has found that people, when given the opportunity, will readily help the less fortunate.

Little Straw Winery has always had complimentary wine tasting, but in April they decided to ask for donations.

And so far, over $2200 has been donated to the Westside Food Bank.

"Customers are very generous and really like the fact that their donation is going to help others who may not be able to come out and enjoy a day of wine tasting," says Little Straw Winery's Tina Slamka.

"We believe people really want to help each other, and this truly gives them the opportunity to do so with no pressure. With everyone giving what they can we are able to make a real difference."

Slamka says she believes everyone has known a time when making ends meet was tough.

"Our family has been in the area for the last 40 years and seen the valley grow and change a lot. We really wanted to help as many in our area as we could."

Slamka says the winery will continue to offer tasting by donation until they close in October - something which delights the Food Bank.

"They typically have lower donations in the summer so this has been a real boost for them."
