Update 4:15 p.m. - Conservation officers have put the cougar down the Kalamoir Park.

Conservation officers were combing the area around Lakeview Heights on Tuesday after a report of a cougar attack earlier in the day.

Conservation officials say sometime Tuesday morning a cougar grabbed a small dog in the Lakeview Heights area after its owner let the dog out.

The owner intervened in an effort to protect the dog.

According to conservation officials, the cougar returned after the initial attack.

The man suffered minor scratches as a result of the attack.
