Pipe bomb found near Merritt

Merritt RCMP are investigating the discovery of a pipe bomb on a rural property backing onto Crown land.

Police were called Thursday morning around 10:30 a.m. when the owner of the property found a bomb positioned near a cattle gate.

The trip-wire was still intact.

An RCMP Explosives Device Unit successfully de-activated the bomb.

The area in question is often used by ATVers, cyclists and pedestrians.

The owner said he hadn't been to that part of his property in months.

Police want anyone who might have any information about this incident to call them or Crimestoppers.
