Pitbulls destroyed after attack

Two pitbulls were destroyed Tuesday following an attack on a dog in West Kelowna last Friday.

An adult male lab cross sustained bites, cuts and tear wounds in the October 15 attack in the 3400 block of Elliott Road.

"The owner of the pitbulls has voluntarily authorized the animals to be euthanized," says Regional District communications coordinator Bruce Smith.

A third, younger, pitbull which was not involved in the attack, was also surrendered to dog control.

While dog control deemed it to be aggressive, it was not euthanized and has been returned to a previous owner.

Smith says all three pitbulls, which do not have a violent past, were unlicensed.

The owner is facing $300 in fines for owning more than two dogs and having a dog aggressively injure another animal.

He also owes various licensing and impound fees.

The lab cross is recovering at home with it's owners.
