A 16-year-old Glenrosa girl is dead while another girl, also 16, is in police custody after a girl was stabbed at a house party in Peachland Wednesday night.

RCMP say they were called to a home on San Clemente Avenue in Peachland at about 9:30 p.m. where they found the victim suffering from serious stab wounds.

She was later pronounced dead at Kelowna General Hospital.

A retired police officer who lives across the street from the house where the party was taking place says he heard screaming and then saw the body of a girl at the end of his driveway.

"All I heard was somebody saying 'Oh my God, how did you do that. I would never do that," says the neighbour.

"I don't know what it was or what they were referring to. I look out a short time later and there was a person lying at the end of our driveway."

Another neighbour says she heard two girls arguing about a guy.

"Moments later they heard one of the girls say I wouldn't have done that," she says.

"I think the young girl that got stabbed was trying to break up an argument between a girl and a guy. I heard she was trying to break it up and the knife was pulled and she got stabbed."

A third neighbour says she also heard a loud argument on the veranda.

"They were having a big fight on the veranda there. All I heard was one name thats all. They were screaming at Jacquie, whoever Jacquie was."

RCMP Cst. Steve Holmes says a 16-year-old female was arrested in connection with the homicide later in the evening at her West Kelowna home, and is currently in custody.

No charges have yet been laid.

The incident is being investigated by the West Kelowna General Investigation Section. No names will be released by police at this time due to the ages of those involved.

Holmes says the victim and the accused were known to each other, and the public is not at risk.
