Man threatened in parking lot

On January 31, shortly after 8 a.m. a male was walking through the parking lot between Extra Foods and Zellers in West Kelowna, and was checking what appeared to be discarded items or garbage under a transport trailer.

As the male was doing this, he realized there was a male laying under the trailer who had set up a make shift camp. The suspect male under the trailer yelled and swore at the victim male, accusing him of stealing his belongings.

The victim left and went about his business, only to be approached a
short time later by the suspect male in a different part of the parking lot where the suspect began circling the him, produced a small pocket knife, waving the knife at the victim telling him repeatedly that he was going to "shank" him.

The victim was able to make his way to Extra Foods where police were called. Police made patrols and located the suspect, who is known to police and was also positively identified by the victim.

The suspect is in custody to appear in provincial court on charges of assault with a weapon, uttering threats, breach of recognizance, and possession of a controlled substance.

The suspect was also wanted on an outstanding warrant, in regard to breaching previous release conditions.

The suspect has a criminal record. The victim was shaken but was not injured.
