Terrace Mtn fire continues to grow

Northerly winds and active fire behaviour Thursday night caused the fire to flare up on the eastern slopes of Terrace Mountain.

The flare-up was visible to residents of Kelowna but did not threaten any structures. A reconnaissance flight flew over the fire Friday morning and report this excursion caused the fire to spread approximately 200 hectares resulting in an estimated new size of 8,550 hectares.

Air tankers actioned the southern flank of the fire Thursday evening with retardant and helicopters bucketed with Thermo-Gel. The northerly wind remained constant overnight and the relative humidity was low. Winds are forecast to continue out of the north today.

On the rest of the fire, firefighters are continuing to meet their objectives of extinguishing hot spots along the fireguard.
