Stolen boat torched in Peachland

Westside RCMP are appealing for assistance from the public after an 18-foot Bayliner was stolen from a Beach Avenue dock and then torched farther down Okanagan Lake in Peachland in the wee hours of Wednesday.

Police were called just before 5 a.m. after receiving a report that the dark blue and white boat was burning on the waterfront at Antlers Beach Regional Park on Highway 97 at the far south end of Peachland. Fire crews moved in quickly to extinguish the blazing craft.

Police said the owner had secured his boat to the dock in the 3800 block of Beach Avenue with a cable and a lock, and had given no one permission to use the boat. The cable was snapped as though it had been purposely forced when the extensively damaged boat was examined at its ultimate resting point down the lake.

Police have no suspects and are appealing to the public for information. Call the West Kelowna RCMP office at 250-768-2880 or Crimestoppers.
