Zanon's council priority

Carol Zanon has priorities.

The newly-elected member of the Westside Municipal Council says the first piece of real business the council should take care of is hiring staff.

“We need to hire a management team, a chief executive officer, a chief financial officer. We need to find the very best people we can to help us get this new municipality underway,” says Zanon.

She says the municipality’s intern administrator has been putting together a list of potential candidates for the jobs.

“He has been working very hard to gather applications and resumes of the best people possible to help us get the Westside running. Once we have gotten the feel for things, we will decided how best to address the list, whether it’s something the whole council looks at or we decide to form a sub-committee to look at at and report back.”

Zanon says she was surprised by the results of Saturday night’s election.

“Based on what I’d been reading and hearing, I was expecting it to go the other way. But I am very pleased that I will get to be a part of the first council.”

She says she is expecting a few bumps in the road as the new mayor and councillors get settled in, but she thinks once things start running, they should make a good team.
