Parade wows thousands

Young and old alike, people in West Kelowna came out early to catch a glimpse of one of the longest parades in B.C.

The annual Westside Daze Parade lacked in marching bands, but more than made up for it with colourful floats and colourful costumes.

The City of Kelowna's parade float, which recently won best overall entry at the Calgary Stampede Parade, was named best visiting float, while the bright and imaginative float from Westbank First Nation was named best local community float.

Hainle Winery won for best commercial float, the Telemark best musical entry and Taneda Karate Dojo best novelty entry.

The parade kicked off festivities on the first full day of Westside Daze.

Kids Day activities and Okanagan Day celebrating First Nations in the Okanagan, take over Memorial Park Saturday afternoon.

Evening entertainment features local country star Ben Klick Saturday evening, before the annual fireworks at Gellatly Bay closes out the evening.

Sunday features the annual Westside Daze Car Show, the Community Worship Celebration at 9:30 a.m. and the Lions Club pancake breakfast.
