The wind-driven wildfire off West Kelowna's Carrington Road grew to a size of 60 by 25 metres Tuesday afternoon before fire crews knocked it down. It was their second human-caused fire of the day.
After saving two buildings from a rapidly growing fire near Lower Glenrosa Road Tuesday, fire crews rushed to Carrington Road just after 1 p.m. to find a "moderately vigorous surface fire."
Along with help from the Kelowna Fire Department, Peachland Fire Department and the BC Wildfire Service, the West Kelowna firefighters established a guard around the fire with "large volumes of water."
While the West Kelowna Fire Department has not disclosed the cause of the fire, Assistant Fire Chief Brent Watson says it was human caused and still under investigation.
Following the second fire, West Kelowna fire crews also assisted with a technical rescue of an injured hiker on Mount Boucherie.
"Crews hiked to the top of Mount Boucherie where they located one patient," Watson said. "The patient was subsequently taken down the mountain without incident and handed over to the care of BC Ambulance."

It's been a busy day for firefighters in West Kelowna.
After fighting a rapidly growing fire off Lower Glenrosa Road earlier Tuesday morning, the same firefighters rushed to Carrington Road near Gellatly Road for a second fire.
As of 2 p.m., fire crews have knocked down the second fire.
"The fire is no longer spreading. There's going to be some more work required to mop it up however, so that's what's underway right now," said West Kelowna Fire Chief Jason Brolund.
"We had 20 firefighters from our department at the first (fire) so I would say that the majority of them responded to the second."
While battling two fires in one day would be more than enough for most, West Kelowna firefighters are now helping with a rescue on Mount Boucherie.
"The crews are on their way up the Boucherie Rush trail for a rescue to assist the ambulance at the top of the hill there," Brolund said. "A day in the life of a firefighter today."

A brush and grass fire in Westbank appears to be mostly knocked down now.
Firefighters are soaking the area with hoses, and smoke from the fire appears much diminished.
UPDATE: 1:35 p.m.
Smoke from a second grass fire on the Westside is drifting across nearby Highway 97.
Police and fire crews have Carrington Road closed to traffic now.
Witnesses reports flames are visible as well as thick smoke coming from a wooded area of brush and tall grass near the McDonald's restaurant just before downtown Westbank.

Firefighters are on the scene of another fire in the West Kelowna area.
Less than an hour after a grass fire threatened homes in the Lower Glenrosa neighbourhood, a fire has sparked on Westbank First Nation land.
The fire is off Carrington Road, near the McDonald's restaurant.
It is burning in thick brush and tall grass, and is not far from high-density development in the area.
