Pro-life sign coming down

A pro-life billboard near on Highway 97 in West Kelowna is being taken down because it doesn't abide by ad standards.

The billboard shows the image of a pregnant woman next to a picture of the same woman holding her baby after it is born. The caption reads: Our right to life does not depend on our location.

The billboard received numerous complaints as soon as it went up.

Marlon Bartram, executive director with Kelowna Right to Life Society, says he's disappointed but not surprised by the decision.

''Based on this and numerous other rulings, it appears Ad Standards and abortion advocates work hand in hand to censor pro-life messages across Canada," he charged.

''We believe their decision is flawed, and we are currently weighing our options moving forward. We aren't surprised, because for some months now the pro-life movement has been making substantial gains in the U.S., and that has abortion advocates everywhere alarmed,'' he added.

Bartram says the ad is not inaccurate or misleading because there are no laws prohibiting abortion at any stage in pregnancy in Canada, and therefore one would be correct to infer that from the images.
