'Get out! Get out!'

A terrifying midnight encounter ensued at a Peachland house when an intoxicated man walked into a private residence and wouldn’t leave.

The 60-year-old woman spoke to Castanet about the nightmare, but fears for her safety and asked to remain anonymous.

Just before 12:30 a.m. Friday, the woman was washing her floor on 5th Street.

“I had the door ajar with my walking stick up against it,” she says. “All of a sudden, I heard something fall. I came to see what it was, and he was standing right in my living room.”

With her heart racing, she asked the intruder what he wanted, and he said "Damon invited me here."

The woman told him there was no man with that name there and that he had the wrong location.

“He said ‘no, I was told to come here,’” she recalls.

Forcefully she told him to leave, but she says he walked towards her and said "or what?"

“My heart started to pound. I was scared, so I started screaming ‘Get out! Get out!' And the neighbours heard me,” she said.

She then pushed the man through the screen door and woke up her husband, who ran outside and found the man standing in their lilac bushes.

RCMP found the man wandering down the highway and stepping into the roadway.

Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey says the man was taken into custody without incident for causing a disturbance and public intoxication. He was held in custody overnight and released when sober.
