Hwy moving, power back

Highway 97 has now been fully reopened after a tree fell across the road earlier Wednesday.

Traffic is starting to move slowly along Highway 97 in Peachland.

The highway has opened to single-lane alternating traffic at Princeton Avenue.

The road was closed in both directions at about 11 a.m. due to downed power lines.

Power has now been restored to the more than 2,600 customers who lost power due to the downed lines.


UPDATE: 11:25 a.m.

Highway 97 at Princeton Avenue in Peachland is closed in both directions as a result of downed power lines.

There is no immediate detour in the area.

The situation will be updated at noon.

The downed lines are believed to be the cause of a power outage from West Kelowna south past Summerland. More than 2,600 BC Hydro customers are affected.


ORIGINAL: 11 a.m.

More than 2,600 BC Hydro customers find themselves without power on the on the Westside.

The power is out in portions of West Kelowna, all of Peachland, and parts of Summerland.

The outage stretches southwest past Summerland.

Power went out at about 10:40 this morning.

It appears the cause may due to downed power lines along Highway 97 near Princeton Avenue in Peachland.

No word when the power will be restored.

Ironically, the outage occurred the day after West Kelowna council grilled BC Hydro representatives over a further delay in bringing a second power line into the region.
