Bells to toll 100 times

The bells of Mission Hill Family Estate Winery will toll 100 times as the sun sets on Sunday.

The ringing will mark 100 years since the end of the First World War and is part of a nationwide effort by the Ladies Auxiliaries of the Royal Canadian Legion to commemorate the centennial.

The Bells of Peace initiative recalls the moment 100 years ago when church bells across the land rang out to let Canadians know the armistice had been signed and the First World War was over, says Westbank Branch spokesperson Cindal McCabe.

As the sun goes down this Remembrance Day, each participating Legion branch will ring bells 100 times to honour those who lost their lives.

The Mission Hill bells can be heard across much of West Kelowna, from their tower on Mount Boucherie.

They are expected to ring about 4:20 p.m.
