West Kel. fire controlled

The Gottfriedsen Mountain wildfire, which is 24 kilometres west of West Kelowna and eight kilometres north of Highway 97, has officially been listed as under control.

The blaze was sparked by lightning Aug. 9.

Several properties, including including Pennask Lake Lodge, Hatheume Lake Resort and cabins in the area, were under evacuation alert until Saturday.

"Low temperatures and high relative humidity saw a significant reduction in fire activity. Successful integration of Canadian Forces with existing crews occurred [Saturday]," reads an update from BC Wildfire, adding that some resources will be focusing on mop-up operations while others are redirected to other fires in the province.

The fire is currently at 633 hectares, and while some flare-ups and spotting activity may occur in the coming days due to wind gusts, its official classification is "Under Control."
