Moose attacks family pet

Alanna Kelly

A moose on the loose became aggressive toward a dog in a West Kelowna backyard.

Alana Haller says the moose has been hanging around her Yorkton Road neighbourhood since Sunday.

"We've all been out with the moose close by, and she has ignored us," said Haller. "I let (Midnight) out to use the washroom around 7 p.m., tied him up and suddenly the moose came out of the dark, charging across the grass and attacked my dog."

Haller said the moose charged at Midnight at least five times.

"I was yelling at her, but then the (moose) kind of looked at me aggressively, and that's when I went back inside," she said.

Her pet was able to break free from its leash and run to the front of the house, unharmed.

Haller says her home is on a large treed lot in Glenrosa.

"We can't find (the moose) after this morning's incident, so we called the conservation officer and reported the situation. It's not safe for her to be around if she's attacking dogs."

Castanet has reached out to conservation officers to see if they have found the animal.
