Lights back on overnight

UPDATE 7 a.m.

Power was restored to the remaining homes in West Kelowna overnight, after it was knocked out Friday afternoon when a car hit a power pole on Boucherie Road.

At the peak of the outage, 3,265 homes were without power. 


UPDATE 6:30 p.m.

Boucherie Road remains closed.

Power is expected to be restored for the 3,025 customers by midnight. 


UPDATE 6:05 p.m.

According to BC Hydro's website, 3,025 customers remain in the dark. Hydro crews are on scene.

No word yet as to when power could be fully restored.

Boucherie Road remains closed both directions at Green Bay Road.


UPDATE: 4:40 p.m.

Power has been restored for a handful of BC Hydro customers on the Westside.

The power was knocked out for 3,265 customers about 1:45 Friday afternoon after a vehicle hit a power pole on Boucherie Road near Green Bay Road.

According to BC Hydro's website, 3,025 customers remain in the dark. Hydro crews are on scene.

No word yet as to when power could be fully restored.


ORIGINAL: 2:15 p.m.

A portion of Boucherie Road is closed to traffic in both directions following a crash about 1:45 this afternoon.

The road is closed around the area of Green Bay Road in West Kelowna.

According to witnesses, a van hit a power pole on the hill heading up toward Quail's Gate Winery from Green Bay Road.

Fire crews, paramedics and police are on the scene.

The crash has also knocked out power to 3,265 customers. The outage affects BC Hydro customers south of Cougar Road, west of Sunnybrea Road, and east of Brenda Lee Road.

No word yet when power will be restored.
