Voter turnout remains low

Voters in the Kelowna West byelection continue to show up in less than enthusiastic numbers compared with previous elections.

During the third day of advance polls for next Wednesday's byelection, 1,002 residents made their way to the polls to cast a ballot.

That's 71 votes fewer than during the 2013 byelection, in what was then the Westside-Kelowna riding.

That vote had the star power of Christy Clark, who was attempting to win a seat in the legislature.

Five years ago, more than 4,500 votes had been cast over three days of advance polls, compared with 2,914 this time around.

Former MLA Ben Stewart (BC Liberals), Shelley Cook (NDP), Robert Stupka (Green), Kyle Geronazzo (Libertarian), and Mark Thompson (BC Conservatives) are seeking the seat left vacant by the resignation of Clark in August.
