Libertarian wants freedom

Kyle Geronazzo is dipping his toe into the turbulent waters of provincial politics for the first time.

He's carrying the banner for the Libertarian Party in the Kelowna West byelection.

That's the seat left vacant when former MLA and premier Christy Clark stepped down in August.

Geronazzo stopped by Castanet and Okanagan Oldies 103.9 Tuesday morning.

"We are all about lower taxes, more personal freedom. We are against all forms of authoritarianism. We want more and more rights for the individual," he said.

"As long as you are going about your day-to-day life, you're not hurting anyone, you're not taking their stuff, we think it's your business and no one else's but your own."

Wading into the current ICBC controversy, Geronazzo says it's time to remove the provincial auto insurance monopoly.

"I'm hearing people want the choice. I think they have the right to be able to choose who to go to for basic insurance. It's time for the B.C. government to begin treating us like what we are, adults.

"The fact of the matter is, if you don't have to compete for your business, where's your incentive to improve for the client, except for good will? Unfortunately, ICBC isn't funded on good will, it's funded on tax dollars. We need to move forward and allow for more choice. "

Voters go to the polls Feb. 14.
