Spending capped at $116K

Candidates running in the Feb. 14 Kelowna West byelection won't be able to go on an election spending spree.

Elections BC has capped spending for each of the candidates and parties involved in the byelection.

Each of the four declared candidates will be allowed to spend $58,000, while each of the parties will also have an expense limit of $58,000.

Third-party advertisers will be restricted to a $3,000 spending limit.

All political participants in the byelection must file a financing report with Elections BC within 90 days following voting day. The deadline is May 15.

Four candidates are vying for the vacant seat, including former MLA Ben Stewart (BC Liberals), Shelley Cook (NDP), Robert Stupka (Green) and Kyle Geronazzo (Libertarian).

The seat became vacant when Christy Clark stepped down as both premier and MLA for the riding, Aug. 4.
