Medal for Terbasket

An Okanagan Aboriginal leader has been honoured with a medal for her community service.

Pauline Terbasket of the Lower Similkamen Indian Band has been executive director of the Okanagan Nation Alliance, based in Westbank, for 20 years. And she has more than three decades of experience working for numerous First Nations organizations, such as the B.C. Native Women's Society and Aboriginal Peoples Family Accord.

Terbasket was among eight people to receive the Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers at Government House in Victoria on Tuesday.

Lieut.-Gov. Judith Guichon presented the medals on behalf of Gov.-Gen. Julie Payette. A Meritorious Service Decoration was also handed out to a ninth recipient.

The Sovereign's Medal recognizes exceptional volunteer achievements of Canadians across the country.
