Creeped out by break-in

RCMP have received multiple tips on suspects from the public after a number of break-ins in the Shannon Lake area.

Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey said investigators are following up on the tips from the public.

At least one home garage was broken into after a pair of thieves got the garage door opener from inside a vehicle, and multiple vehicles have been broken into.

RCMP said the series of reported residential and commercial break-ins are no just in Shannon Lake.

“(They are) all throughout the City of West Kelowna, including Rose Valley, Glenrosa and Lake View Heights” said O’Donaghey.

O’Donaghey said if neighbours see something they should say something.

“Work together with your neighbours, watch out for each others property and be sure to report suspicious activity to the police,” he said.

A rash of vehicle break-ins in the Shannon Lake area of West Kelowna has neighbours worried.

Mike Young’s truck was broken into early Saturday on Shannon Way.

Tools worth several thousand dollars were stolen.

His neighbour’s truck was also broken into, but Young says surveillance video disturbed him the most.

“Stuff is stuff, it is insured, it is replaceable. But what really creeps me out about this is the guy tried the door,” he said. “There are two females (who) live in there ... what is it coming to? Just imagine what could have happened.”

Castanet published surveillance video last week, showing a man and woman checking for unlocked vehicles and breaking into a garage after taking a garage door opener.

Since then, multiple people have posted to Facebook with similar experiences.

One person said “my husband just caught someone checking people's vehicles along Shannon Lake Ridge, and shouted to scare them away.”

Young says more needs to be done by police.

“When are they going to step up and start doing something?" he said.
