Local snags country award

A West Kelowna musician has been named the best country club act in B.C.

Ben Klick, a country musician and Okanagan College audio engineering and music production alumnus, took home the honour at the 41st annual B.C. Music Association awards last weekend.

The award goes to a solo artist, duo or group that regularly performs in B.C. country clubs, and is based on their performance and contribution to country music in the province.

The award comes as Klick's summer tour comes to a close. This summer, Klick played the Merritt Rockin' River Music Festical, the Sunfest Country Music Festival in the Cowichan Valley and took the stage at the Calgary Stampede as well.

Locally, Klick played at West Kelowna's Parks Alive! as well as Live in Lake Country.

Overall, Klick played more than 25 festivals and events this summer.

In December, the West Kelowna native is travelling to Nashville to record a six-song EP for release next summer.

“I’ve taken a little bit of a different approach to this record,” said Klick. “By not only writing with some of my favourite co-writers, but by working with some Top 40 pop writers, as they have a natural talent when it comes to writing hooks.”
