3% tax increase proposed

The City of West Kelowna will be asking for $29.4 million from taxpayers in 2017.

That's an increase of nearly $1.3 million from this year's tax demand.

It works out to a three per cent tax increase, the same increase council approved in 2016.

In fact, the city's 10-year financial plan calls for a constant increase of three per cent through 2026.

According to information provided in a draft report for council, it is being recommended any funding not immediately required for program, service or infrastructure use, be allocated to city reserves.

It's expected, based on BC Assessment information, growth will hit 1.46 per cent, which is higher than anticipated.

If that number holds, it will add about $139,000 in tax dollars.

Protective services, police and fire, will eat up about $14.5 million of the tax dollars collected.

Council will get a first look at the draft financial plan Tuesday.
