Arrest in stabbing case

One man is in custody following an alleged stabbing in Kelowna Sunday night.

RCMP confirm they responded to a stabbing incident believed to be in retaliation for an assault on a woman earlier that evening.

A resident of the area around Highway 97 and Elliott Road tells Castanet there was a large police presence in his back alley late Sunday.

The man said he went outside between 9 p.m. and 9:30 to get pellets for his wood stove when he heard someone jump over his fence and saw police in the alley.

They returned this morning and were searching the area.

He was told only that "a violent incident" had taken place.

The father said he fears for the safety of his children in what he called "not the greatest neighbourhood," with an abandoned strip mall and closed down gas station.

RCMP confirm one man is in custody. No charges have been approved at this time. Police do not believe there is any risk to the public.
