Arresting wake-up call

An astute West Kelowna civilian helped police nab a wanted man.

West Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked with people sleeping inside it on the 3600 block of Gellatly Road, Friday afternoon.

Const. Jesse O’Donaghey said police arrived on scene and discovered the white Dodge Caravan had been reported stolen to Penticton RCMP a day earlier.

“RCMP officers arrested a man connected to the vehicle, believed to be under the influence of an intoxicating substance, who allegedly provided investigators with a false name at the scene,” said O’Donaghey.

“The man was with two other women who were identified by police and released at the scene without charge.”

The suspect was identified as a 20-year-old Kelowna man wanted on several outstanding warrants in Campbell River and Kelowna.

“He faces several additional potential charges and was remanded into custody over the weekend,” said O’Donaghey.
