Big turnout for polls

Twelve per cent of eligible voters turned out for the two days of advance polling in the West Kelowna City Hall referendum.

Nearly 1,600 ballots were cast on the first day of advance voting on Sept. 7. Almost as many, about 1,550 people, came out to vote Sept. 13.

The vote is being held to determine if the City of West Kelowna can borrow up to $7.7 million to build a new city hall.

With advance polling now complete, the general referendum will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Votes can be cast at Constable Neil Bruce Middle School, George Pringle Elementary School, Glenrosa Middle School and Mar Jok Elementary School.

Voters must be 18 years old or over, a Canadian citizen, a resident of B.C. for at least six months prior to registering, and a resident or registered owner of property in the City of West Kelowna.

There are about 26,000 eligible voters in West Kelowna.
