Mother pleads for answers

A mother whose son was murdered almost 10 years ago to the day made an emotional plea for answers Friday at the West Kelowna RCMP detachment.

Adam Fettes, known to friends as Mikel Jones, was killed in his home on Stuart Road in West Kelowna on Sept. 10, 2006.

His car, a black Ford Five Hundred, was later found at Bertram Creek Regional Park, on the other side of Okanagan Lake from his home.

Fettes was a known drug dealer who had lived in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside before moving to West Kelowna in 2004.

Laura MacDonald, his mother, says he was more than just a drug dealer and was always a loving son.

“He wasn't just a drug dealer and an addict, he helped a lot of people, he did a lot of good for people,” MacDonald said.

Despite his criminal behaviour, MacDonald says Fettes always kept in touch with her, even after moving to the Okanagan.

“I don't get to hear him tell me that he loves me anymore,” MacDonald said. “I can't replace him.”

At the press conference Friday, MacDonald announced the family is offering up to $10,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction in her son's murder.

“I hope that whoever knows about this will hear it and take it to their conscience, and can they just come forward with it,” MacDonald said, choking back tears.

Police ask anyone with information to call the RCMP Southeast District Major Crimes Unit at 250-469-7800 or CrimeStoppers at 1-877-987-8477.
