Amphitheatre christened

The ribbon was cut on the new amphitheatre at Memorial Park in West Kelowna Friday night.

The opening occurred during the city's Music in the Park, just prior to Elvis tribute artist Adam Fitzpatrick took the stage.

More than 1,300 people packed the new amphitheatre, the hillside and areas round the stage.

Construction of the amphitheatre is a part of an $813,000 upgrade to the park which includes a new skatepark and bike park.

The federal government kicked in $315,000, while the city put in the remaining $495,000.

The The official grand opening of the skatepark will take place at noon Saturday.
