A potential new gang in the Okanagan has been hit hard by Kelowna RCMP.
In what police call a "significant" seizure, drugs, guns and ammunition – purportedly belonging to the Kelowna Warriors – were taken from a home on the 2700 block of Windt Road in West Kelowna last Thursday.
Police displayed the arsenal during a media show and tell this afternoon.
"The Kelowna Warriors is a group known to the RCMP, and they have identified themselves as a gang," said Const. Jesse O'Donaghey.
"We are currently monitoring their activities here in the RCMP."
O'Donaghey said he is not aware of previous gang related arrests involving the Kelowna Warriors.
He said it is believed the Kelowna Warriors have a relationship with a gang in Manitoba.
Inside the home, police seized eight weapons, ammunition as well as drugs with a street value of just under $10,000.
One of the firearms was stolen from Prince George in 2009.
"This is a significant seizure, definitely. The amount of firearms removed from the residence is obviously concerning, given the fact there was a child inside the home," he said.
"I am speaking in the totality of the situation. It's not just specifically the drugs seized or the firearms. It's the fact they were all together in the same residence."
Two men and a woman, all from West Kelowna, were arrested inside the home.
The Ministry of Child and Family Development was also called in to care for a seven-year-old child.
The 24-year-old woman was released without charges while a 37-year-old man was released from custody, but is expected to appear Oct. 13 on potential drug and firearms charges.
Thirty-two-year-old Tyson Ashleigh Bone remains in custody.
Bone has been formally charged with multiple charges, including careless storage of a firearm, two counts of possession of a loaded prohibited/restricted firearm with ammo, possession of stolen property, knowingly possessing a firearm without a licence, possession of a controlled substance, three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and breach of an undertaking.
