While there was smoke rising into the sky, there was no need to worry this time.
A very small blaze caught the attention of many in West Kelowna and Kelowna Saturday evening as the smoke could be seen rising from an area at the bottom of Lindley Drive off Westside Road.
West Kelowna fire crews first received a report of a house on fire, then a grass fire and by the time crews arrived the story was entirely different.
“By the time we got there bystanders had extinguished a camp fire that had spread into nearby cedar trees,” says chief Jason Brolund.
“They had created a bucket brigade out of the lake and did a really great job.”
While there is currently no campfire ban in effect, circumstances like this one leave firefighters concerned about irresponsible campers and the need for a ban soon.
