Car theft suspect nabbed

Possession of brass knuckles, stolen items and break-in tools have landed a young Kelowna man behind bars.

Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says Kelowna RCMP arrested a man early Friday morning who was found to be in possession of items believed to have been recently stolen from vehicles targeted in the downtown area.

“RCMP have seen an increase in reported theft from motor vehicles in Kelowna,” says O’Donaghey.

“We hope to see a decline in these incidents with this suspect in custody. Regardless, we will continue to focus our efforts in both preventing, as well as identifying and fully investigating these types of incidents.”

O’Donaghey says the suspect was found to be in possession of tools commonly used to illegally gain entry into vehicles.

He was also found in possession of a set of brass knuckles, considered a prohibited weapon under the Criminal Code.

The suspect, a 24-year-old man of no fixed address, faces potential charges of possession of break-in tools, possession of a prohibited weapon and three counts of breach of probation.

He remains in custody and is expected to appear in court April 14.
