Give two cents on city hall

A potential new city hall will be on the agenda when the City of West Kelowna meets residents at an open house scheduled for next week.

Residents are invited to get more information on the new city hall proposal as well as the alternative approval process on April 6 at the Westbank Lions Hall.

Mayor Doug Findlater will make a formal presentation at 5:15 p.m. followed by an open mic for questions and comments from those in attendance.

Members of the council will also attend.

Three information booths will also be set up at different locations and events over the next few weeks.

These will be set up at:

  • Westbank Library, Westridge Mall, 2484 Main Street -– Monday, April 4, from 10 a.m. to noon
  • West Kelowna Warriors game, Royal LePage Place, 2760 Cameron Road – Wednesday, April 6, beginning at 7 p.m.
  • Johnson Bentley Pool, 3737 Old Okanagan Highway – Saturday, April 16, from 9 a.m. to noon

The city is proposing to borrow up to $10.5 million for the new city hall, which would be constructed as part of a larger civic centre on Elliott Road.

Under the AAP currently underway, if more than 10 per cent of the 26,030 registered voters in West Kelowna (2,603) say no, the city would have to scrap the plan or go to a full city-wide referendum.

If fewer than 10 per cent of voters submit forms, the borrowing of funds is considered approved.

AAP forms are now available at city hall on Cameron Road or online at the city website.

Completed forms must be returned to city hall by 4 p.m. May 3.
