Eyesore mall sells

There's a common held belief positive change in downtown West Kelowna can't happen until something is done with Westwynd Village.

The long-defunct strip mall on Main Street, known as the Cattle Country mall, is one of the last images people see as they leave the city.

That change could be coming soon. A 'sold' sign has gone up on the property.

According to Jeff Hudson, listing agent with HM Commercial Group, conditions of a sale have been removed. The sale closes Friday.

Hudson was not at liberty to disclose the buyer or the purchase price.

However, the property was listed for sale for $2.2 million.

The current owner had hoped to turn the property in a mixed-use development.

A proposal came before council in 2010 seeking zoning amendments for a four-phased development featuring commercial space at street level and residential above. Building heights would range from two to eight storeys.

The development never got off the ground.

Hudson said the new owner plans to leave the site as is with a gas station at one end, accompanied by a single-storey strip mall.
