Asleep at the wheel

UPDATE 11:30 A.M.

Police believe a Kelowna man may have fallen asleep at the wheel before crashing his truck into a lamp standard Wednesday morning.

RCMP say the 39-year-old lone driver suffered minor injuries after crashing his truck into a light pole on Stevens Road at 7:32 a.m.

The truck sustained severe damage to the front end.

The driver was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care and attention.

The truck was towed from the scene. There is no indication any drugs or alcohol were involved.

Stevens Road was reduced to one lane Wednesday morning after a pickup truck rammed into a lamp pole.

According to witnesses, the driver was travelling west on Stevens Road towards Westlake Road when he slammed into the light standard. Police are not yet commenting on what may have caused the accident. 

Witnesses say the driver suffered only minor injuries.

Traffic was reduced to one lane on Stevens Road, but both lanes have now reopened.
