Power restored

UPDATE:

Power was finally restored for several thousand BC Hydro customers in West Kelowna shortly before midnight Wednesday.

According to hydro, the power went out for more than 5,500 customers between 5:15 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. when a tree fell across hydro lines on Boucherie Road near Quail's Gate Estate Winery.

That event caused power in other areas to go out over a span of 10 minutes.

A downed power line near Quail's Gate Winery caused a small grass fire, and knocked out power for over 5000 West Kelowna residents this evening.

Power went down at approximately 5:15 p.m. today after reports of the downed power line and a blown transformer near the winery on Boucherie Rd.

On BC Hydro's website, it shows the estimated time the power will be back on is 7:00 p.m.
