Mall to be demolished

Proposed look of a new shopping centre and residential building slated to replace the current Lakeview Heights Plaza on Anders Road.

The Lakeview Heights Plaza is set for demolition.

West Kelowna Council gave approval Tuesday for a Commercial Development Permit that will pave the way for redevelopment of the Anders Road shopping centre.

The permit allows for demolition of the current shopping centre and a phased in redevelopment of the property.

The new development will include nearly 50,000 square feet of space in four commercial buildings as well as construction of a new 17-unit multi family residential building.

The design of the building is expected to include various architectural detailing and pedestrian oriented elements reflective of the character of the neighbourhood.

It is expected the project will be built in four phases over five years.

Improvements to the area would include full urban upgrades to Anders and Olalla roads and an upgrade to an existing water main from Skyline Road to the property.

No timeline has been issued as to when demolition will begin.
