Westlake Rd. opens for holiday

Westlake Road, under construction since April, will be opened for the long weekend for the convenience of the travelling public.

The $5.1 million Westlake Road Upgrade Project is nearing completion with only the section, between Caledonia Way and Rosewood Drive still under construction. This section will open by 5:30 p.m. Friday, October 10 in time for Thanksgiving weekend traffic.

On Tuesday, October 14, construction will resume between Caledonia Way and Rosewood Drive and motorists can expect single lane alternating traffic through this section.

Motorists wishing to avoid any construction related delays should continue to use the McDougall Road detour.

The Westlake Road Upgrade construction project involves transforming the road, between Highway 97 and Starlight Crescent, from a rural state to an urban arterial standard. Upgrades include the construction of:

  •      3.6 metre wide travel lanes in each direction
  •      1.5 metre cycling lanes in each direction
  •      Curb, gutter and underground storm drainage
  •      Replacement watermain
  •      1.8 metre wide sidewalks at in each direction from Stevens Road to Highway 97
  •      1.8 metre wide sidewalks on the east side from Stevens Road to Starlight Crescent
  •      56 streetlights
  •      A roundabout traffic circle at the intersection of Stevens Road and Westlake Road.
