Downed lines trap driver

A few tense moments for the driver of a Clark Freightways rig after power lines came to rest over his cab.

The driver, who did not wish to be identified, told Castanet News the top of the trailer hit the line in a parking lot off Byland Road, in West Kelowna.

"I saw a spark and knew immediately not to get out of the cab because you don't mess around with electricity," he says.

"Crews got here pretty quick and I only had to stay in the cab for about 10 to 15 minutes.

He says it was a little freaky, but he wasn't scared.

"He was smart enough and just sat tight and didn't come out just in case," says West Kelowna fire captain, Clint Fraser.

Power to one business was shut off allowing the lines to be moved away from the rig.

Hydro crews expect it will take a couple of hours to repair the damage.
