Labour peace

The District of West Kelowna and its unionized workers, members of the Association of Local Government Employees Union, have agreed on a new two year contract.

Unionized workers have been without a contract since the previous three year deal expired Dec 31, 2013.

The new deal, announced Wednesday morning, is retroactive to Jan 1 of this year and runs until Dec 31, 2015.

It provides workers with a 1% increase over each of the two years.

Prior to the new contract, full time employees with the District of West Kelowna earned between $23.96/hr (Level 1) and $39.24/hr (Level 10).

The ALGEU membership voted 92% in favour of this agreement.

The contract affects 94 non-management workers with the municipality.
