Warehouse fire accidental

UPDATE 3:45 P.M. - West Kelowna Fire Rescue investigators have determined that last night’s fire was accidental in nature and was caused by an electrical issue.

Fire crews were called to a fire in an industrial unit at 1135 Stevens Rd., near Westlake and Hwy. 97, Tuesday night.

When crews arrived they noticed smoke coming from the rear of the old M.T .F. building at Integrated Power, next to Cody Auctions. The fire was burning near the back of the unit. Smoke had already spread to adjoining units and the roof of the large structure via the buildings HVAC system and common attic space.

Crews were able to knock down the main body of fire with an offensive interior fire attack. Once the fire was under control, crews worked to protect the attached units from fire, smoke and water damage

The fire was reported just after 11 p.m., engines 31, 32, 33 and 34 responded, as did two police cars.

Crews were still mopping up the fire at 1 a.m.

No occupants were in the building at the time of the incident and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is not known, but it is believed to be accidental.

A fire watch crew will remained on scene through the night, monitoring for hot spots.

Fire investigators will attend the scene in the morning to complete their fire cause and origin investigation.
