Fatal fire

An early morning house fire erupted in West Kelowna this morning at the Westpoint Modular Home Park.

The fire started around 4 a.m. and witnesses say the blaze quickly engulfed the home.

The West Kelowna Fire Department awoke residents with loud sirens, to ensure no one was caught unaware if the fire spread to neighbouring buildings.

Crews have now confirmed that a man's body and a dog have been found inside, they are now awaiting the BC Coroners Service.

Neighbours say the man was in his 50's and had recently separated from his wife.

The fire department responded with four engines and 16 firefighters.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

We’ll have more details as they become available.
